To activate your Weel account, we verify details about your business, your applicant (the person completing sign-up on behalf of the business), and your stakeholders (directors and anyone else with significant ownership or control). This meets compliance and anti-money-laundering obligations. What you need to provide depends on your business's legal structure, so start by identifying your entity type below.
You can identify the entity type of your business by searching the New Zealand Business Number Register or the New Zealand Companies Register.
How It Works
- Selecting your entity type routes you to the exact information your business needs to provide, since requirements vary by legal structure.
- Private Company (Limited), a registered business with an NZBN governed by shareholders and directors, is the only entity type New Zealand sign-up supports today.
- Public Company, Regulated Trust, Unregulated Trust, Partnership, Association (Not-for-Profit), Government Entity, and Sole Trader are all coming soon for New Zealand.
- For a Private Company, you'll provide business details: your NZBN, registered address, bank account details, and a description of what your business does.
- Applicant details confirm who's completing sign-up, covering their role, personal details, and identity documents.
- Stakeholder details identify directors and other individuals with significant ownership or control, each with identity documents, plus a completed Letter of Authority confirming you're authorised to represent the business.
Good to know
- Confirm your entity type using the New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) Register or the New Zealand Companies Register before you start. Weel's sign-up flow doesn't include a searchable directory to help you identify your entity type in advance.
- Once you've entered your NZBN and selected Private Company (Limited), sign-up automatically looks up your registration to verify and pre-fill your details, using the same lookup mechanism as the Australian ABN check. This happens after you've already chosen your entity type, so it can't help you decide which type applies in the first place.
