When a transaction shows as Pending, Weel has authorised the payment but hasn't yet received final settlement confirmation from the card network. Your funds stay held against your available balance until then, and the transaction updates automatically once the merchant settles. No action is needed on your part.
Pending transactions can remain in this state for up to 10 business days. During this time, the funds are reserved but not finalised. If the payment is declined, reversed, or cancelled by the merchant, the pending transaction will be removed and the funds returned to your available balance.
Steps
Navigate to the Transactions table
Locate the pending transaction
Look for transactions labelled Pending under the Date column.
Open the transaction details
Click on the transaction to view the merchant name, authorised amount, and date.
Review the authorised amount
Note: the pending amount may differ from the final amount if the merchant has placed a temporary authorisation hold (common with hotels, fuel stations, or subscriptions).
How It Works
- Pending tag: shows in the Date column instead of a settled date until the transaction clears, then the actual date appears automatically.
- Held balance: your available balance reflects the hold as soon as the merchant authorises the payment.
- Automatic clearing: once the merchant settles with the card network, Weel is notified and updates the transaction for you.
- Transaction details: open any pending transaction from the Transactions table to see the merchant name and the amount authorised.
- Authorisation holds: merchants such as hotels, fuel stations, car rental and subscription services often authorise a different amount than the final charge, either adding a buffer or authorising before they know the total.
- Automatic release: if a merchant never settles, cancels, or has a payment declined, the hold falls off under the card network's rules and your funds return to your available balance.
Good to know
- How long a transaction stays pending varies by merchant and card network. Weel doesn't apply a fixed timer.
- Settlement can take longer over weekends, public holidays, or when a merchant batches settlements manually rather than in real time.
- A transaction's coding status (category, receipt, approval or export) is tracked separately from whether it's cleared, so it can still need coding whether or not it's pending.
