How does Weel automatically select a category for a card transaction?

Weel has multiple features which automatically apply an expense category to card transactions. Here is how these features work together to apply a category.

If AI categorisation is enabled:

  1. Weel will apply any applicable automatic categorisation rules or subscription categorisation rules that have been created for your account.
  2. Weel AI will automatically select a category using merchant data, past coding behaviour on your account, company context and more.

If AI categorisation is disabled:

  1. Weel will apply any applicable automatic categorisation rules or subscription categorisation rules that have been created for your account.
  2. If only one category has been mapped the budget, Weel will automatically apply that category.
  3. If you have transacted at this merchant before, Weel will automatically apply the category used last time.
  4. If default categories are enabled for your account, Weel will use the MCC for the merchant and select a relevant default category.
  5. If none of the above apply, the category field will be left blank.
