The reference on a supplier's bank statement can look different from the Reference on your remittance advice. This isn't an error: once Weel sends a payment, different banks and payment rails reformat or truncate the reference before it reaches a statement. Your remittance advice always shows the exact reference Weel sent, making it the authoritative record for any mismatch.
How It Works
- Payment Reference: Enter a reference (up to 18 characters, letters, numbers, spaces or hyphens) when paying a bill; it appears on the remittance advice and is sent to your bank exactly as typed.
- Remittance Advice: Shows the exact reference Weel sent for a payment, making it the authoritative record if a supplier flags a mismatch.
- BPAY References: For BPAY bills, the reference is your supplier's Customer Reference Number (CRN), synced automatically from their supplier record.
- Modify for This Payment: Override a BPAY reference for one payment without changing the supplier's saved CRN, before the bill is paid.
- Transaction ID: A separate, Weel-generated payout identifier shown on the remittance advice. Don't confuse it with the Reference field.
- Automatic Remittance Emails: Send suppliers a remittance advice for every payment automatically, so they always have the correct reference on hand.
Good to know
- Once a bill is submitted for payment, none of its details, including the reference, can be edited, whether the payment is still processing or already complete.
- Reformatting happens after Weel sends the payment, inside the banking network. Weel can't control or predict exactly how a reference will appear on the recipient's bank statement.
- If a supplier still can't reconcile a payment, share the remittance advice with them (it's the accurate record of the reference Weel sent), or set them up for Automatic Remittance Emails so they receive one for every future payment.
