Set a tax invoice requirement (Mandatory, Optional, or Not required) for each payment type your business uses.
Steps
- Go to your Account settings.
- Select Expense fields.
- Scroll to the Tax Invoices panel.
-
For each payment type, choose an option from its dropdown. Changes save automatically, so there's no separate save step.
- Mandatory: a tax invoice is required before the expense can be completed.
- Optional: team members can attach a tax invoice or mark the expense as no tax invoice. This is the default for every payment type.
- No tax invoice required (Budget card transactions and Subscription card transactions only): expenses are automatically marked as no tax invoice.
Accounts Payable only appears here if it's enabled for your business. Reimbursements only appears if reimbursements are enabled as a payment type for your business. Neither can be set to No tax invoice required, only Mandatory or Optional.
What happens next
If you set Mandatory for Budget card transactions, Subscription card transactions, or Reimbursements, you can also add a dollar threshold (plan-gated, not available for Accounts Payable) so only expenses at or above that amount need a tax invoice. See How to set a dollar threshold for receipts on card expenses and reimbursements for the steps.
