When AI GST extraction is enabled, Weel AI reads each receipt uploaded to a card expense and fills in the GST amount automatically, including GST-free items and foreign or overseas transactions. This keeps GST coding consistent without manual work, and you can always update the suggested amount. It's on by default for every account.
How It Works
- Automatic extraction: Upload a receipt by email-in, mobile photo, or file, and Weel AI reads it with OCR and fills in the GST field for the transaction.
- GST-free and overseas detection: Weel AI recognises GST-free purchases and applies the right GST treatment for foreign and overseas transactions.
- Visible everywhere: The suggested GST amount shows on every transaction in both the web and mobile apps.
- Editable anytime: You can update the GST amount Weel AI suggests whenever you need to.
- On by default: Auto-extract GST is on for every account, with an off switch under Weel AI in AI and automations settings.
- Fallback without a receipt: If no receipt is uploaded, GST is calculated from your business's default GST rate (1/11 of the total at the standard 10% Australian rate), or $0 for foreign-currency transactions.
Good to know
- A newer tool may replace this feature for your business: Some accounts see Smart Tax Rates in this same settings location instead of Auto-extract GST. Smart Tax Rates assigns a full tax rate to each transaction line item and splits mixed-rate transactions automatically.
- Don't see the Auto-extract GST toggle? Your business may already be using Smart Tax Rates instead. See the related articles below for details.
