Per-transaction card limits cap the size of any single card transaction, so one large purchase can't use up a whole budget. You can set a limit for your business, and a tighter one on an individual budget or subscription. Limits apply to card transactions only — not to accounts payable invoices or reimbursements.
Note: Limits are set in your business's default currency (AUD or NZD). Setting no limit doesn't mean unlimited — every Weel card transaction is capped at $35,000. A per-transaction limit lowers that ceiling for your business, budget, or subscription.
Steps
To set a business-wide limit:
- Go to Settings, then open the Business information tab.
- In the Card controls section, click Set transaction limit.
- Enter the maximum amount for a single card transaction, then click Save limit.
- If any budgets or subscriptions have a higher limit, you'll see This will lower limits on other budgets, listing which ones will be capped. Click Confirm limit.
To change or clear it later, click Edit or Remove limit.
To set a limit on a budget or subscription:
- Open the Budgets or Subscriptions page from the left-hand navigation menu.
- Open the one you want to change, then click Edit Budget Rules (budgets) or Edit (subscriptions).
- In the Spend limit and top up rules section, turn on Per-transaction card limit and enter the amount.
- Click Save
What happens next
The limit applies immediately. Any card transaction above it is declined automatically at the moment of purchase. Where a business limit and a budget limit both apply, the smaller one stops the transaction.
Please note, limits are enforced when a merchant asks us to authorise a payment. There are scenarios where transactions complete without Weel being involved in the authorisation process — such as a merchant force-clearing a payment, or taking payment while their terminal is offline — and those can go through above your limit. Treat per-transaction limits as a strong control rather than a guarantee.
Things to remember
- A budget or subscription limit can't exceed your business limit. Lowering the business limit automatically caps any that sit above it.
- This is separate from your budget limit. The budget limit controls total spending over the period; the per-transaction limit controls the size of each purchase.
