Reassign a transaction to a different budget from the Weel mobile or web app, as long as the transaction and new budget meet the conditions below.
On the Weel mobile app
- Open the Expenses tab.
- Use the Incomplete and Complete tabs to find and open the relevant expense.
- Tap the Budget field.
- Select the new budget from the drop-down list.
- Tap Save.
On the Weel web app
- Open the Transactions page.
- Find the relevant transaction.
- Click the Budget field, either on the transaction table row or in the transaction drill-down.
- Select the new budget from the drop-down list. The change saves automatically, there's no separate Save step on the web.
- You can't change the budget yourself if you made the transaction and it's already waiting for approval, approved, or declined, unless you have transaction-update permission or you're the approver. Ask an admin instead.
When you can't change a transaction's budget
- It's coded to a Subscription-type budget. These are locked and can never be reassigned.
- It's an internal Weel charge, like a platform fee, rather than a card transaction, bill, or reimbursement. Charges can never be reassigned.
- The new budget doesn't support the transaction's payment type, for example a card transaction moving to a budget that isn't set up to accept card payments.
- The new budget has been deleted.
- The new budget is scheduled to start in the future and hasn't started yet.
- The new budget didn't exist yet when the transaction happened.
- The employee who made the transaction was never a member of the new budget. If they've since left the business, past membership still counts. If they're still employed and were just removed from that budget, past membership doesn't count, so the change stays blocked.
- The transaction amount is larger than the new budget's available limit, unless the transaction's been refunded. Refunds skip this check.
What happens next
Moving a transaction to a new budget can trigger a fresh approval check under that budget's own rules, so it may need approval again.
