Owners, Admins, and Accountants can amend and add to your Chart of Accounts themselves, no support ticket needed. This covers mapping categories to accounting codes, managing custom categories, and CSV uploads for a manual chart. That access is granted per Weel business, not account-wide, so it doesn't automatically carry over if you manage more than one company.
How It Works
- Default access: Owner, Admin, and Accountant roles include Chart of Accounts access automatically, so most businesses don't need to grant anything extra.
- Custom roles: A custom role with Configure all settings turned on (People > Roles) gives a Team Member this same access, along with the rest of Settings.
- Mapping and defaults: Map each expense category to its accounting code, and switch default categories on or off, with no extra permission needed.
- Creating and uploading: Create, name, or delete your own custom categories, and upload or re-upload a manual chart via CSV.
- Accounting integrations: Connect Xero, MYOB AccountRight, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Business Central and your chart of accounts syncs in automatically, with CSV upload turned off.
- Business-by-business scope: Each company you manage in Weel is a separate business, with its own Chart of Accounts, users, roles, accounting integration, and funding account.
Good to know
- Role assignment isn't inherited across companies. The Owner role is automatically assigned to whoever creates a business, so if you set up all of yours, you're likely already an Owner or Admin everywhere. Even so, it's possible to be a Team Member on one business and an Admin on another.
- To work in a specific company, switch to it first using the business name in the top-right of the web app, then go to that business's own Settings > Chart of Accounts.
- If you're an admin on two or more businesses, the Multi-entity dashboard (same dropdown) gives you a combined, read-only view of incomplete expenses, pending approvals, spend, scheduled payments, and account balances. It's not a shared settings screen, so you still make Chart of Accounts changes one business at a time.
