Weel MCP connects your AI assistant to your Weel account, so you can ask questions about your spend in plain English. This article covers what MCP is and how to connect Claude, ChatGPT or Grok to Weel.
Weel MCP is currently in Beta. Anyone in your business can connect an assistant. Connected assistants can view only the connected user's Weel data, but they can't change anything.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Grok connect to the apps you already use. Once Weel is connected, your assistant can look up your Weel data whenever you ask it something.
You approve every connection yourself on a Weel page, using your own Weel login. The assistant never sees your password. It works with the same permissions as your Weel account, so a Team Member's assistant only sees what that team member can see in Weel.
How It Works
- Answers without the clicks: ask "What did the marketing team spend on software last month?" or "Which of my card payments are still missing receipts?" and get the answer straight away.
- View only: your assistant can look up transactions, budgets and budget members, bills, reimbursements, approvals, suppliers, categories, tax rates, custom fields and people. Approving, paying, coding and editing all stay in the Weel app.
- One business per connection: each connection reaches only the business you choose when you approve it.
- You stay in control: you approve each connection in Weel, and you can disconnect it at any time.
Supported AI assistants
| Assistant | How you add Weel |
|---|---|
| Claude | Search for Weel in Claude's connector directory |
| ChatGPT | Add Weel as a custom MCP server using the Weel MCP address |
| Grok | Add Weel as a custom connector using the Weel MCP address |
Before you start
You will need:
- A Weel login for the business you want to connect. Any role can connect.
- Weel MCP turned on for your business. If you see Connection unavailable while connecting, contact Weel support. There's currently no self-service way to turn this on.
- For ChatGPT and Grok, the Weel MCP address:
https://mcp.letsweel.com/mcp. Claude users don't need it.
Step 1: Add Weel to your assistant
To connect Claude:
- In Claude, click Customize in the left-hand sidebar, then select the Connectors tab. You can also go straight to Customize > Connectors.
- Type Weel in the search box.
- Find Weel (by Weel, marked Community) and click Connect. A Weel page opens in your browser. Continue to Step 2.
If you're on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan: an Owner or Primary Owner of your Claude organisation adds Weel once, before team members can connect:
- Go to Organization settings > Connectors.
- Click Browse connectors at the bottom of the page.
- Search for Weel, select it and click Add to your team.
This makes Weel available to your team but doesn't connect anyone's Weel account. Each team member then follows the steps above with their own Weel login. If your Owner hasn't added Weel yet, open the Weel listing and click Request to ask them.
To use Weel in a Claude chat: click + in the bottom left of the message box, choose Connectors and switch Weel on. Once you've connected on the web or in the desktop app, Weel also works in the Claude mobile app.
To connect ChatGPT:
- In ChatGPT, click Plugins in the left-hand sidebar.
- Click Add in the top right corner, then select Add custom MCP server. If you don't see Add custom MCP server, turn on custom connector support in ChatGPT's settings first.
- Enter Weel as the Name.
- Under Connection, leave Server URL selected and enter
https://mcp.letsweel.com/mcp. - Check that Authentication is set to OAuth. Leave Advanced OAuth settings as they are.
- Tick I understand and want to continue.
- Click Create as a plugin.
- Sign in when prompted. A Weel page opens in your browser. Continue to Step 2.
On ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, your workspace admin may need to allow custom MCP servers before you can add one.
To connect Grok:
- In Grok, click Plugins at the bottom of the left-hand sidebar.
- On the Connectors tab, click New Connector in the top right corner.
- Select Custom (Add your own custom connector).
- Enter Weel as the Name and
https://mcp.letsweel.com/mcpas the Server URL, then click Add Connector.
- Sign in when prompted. A Weel page opens in your browser. Continue to Step 2.
On Grok Business and Enterprise, your team admin adds the connector in the xAI console before team members can use it.
Step 2: Approve the connection in Weel
The Connect to Weel page shows which assistant is asking for access.
- Sign in to Weel if you're asked to.
- If you belong to more than one business, choose one under Select the business to connect.
- Check the summary: the assistant can view data in that business with the same permissions as your Weel account, and can't reach your other businesses.
- Click Approve.
Back in your assistant, Weel now shows as connected. To check, ask "Who am I in Weel?"
Manage your connections
- Click the Settings gear in the top right corner of the Weel web app and choose Account settings.
- Select AI, MCP and automations. (If you aren't an Admin, this tab is called MCP.)
- Under Weel MCP, you'll see each connected assistant, when it was connected and when it was last used.
- To remove one, click Disconnect, then click Disconnect again to confirm.
The assistant loses access within 15 minutes. You only see your own connections. Each person manages theirs.
To remove Weel from your assistant as well, go to Customize > Connectors in Claude and disconnect Weel. In ChatGPT, open Plugins and remove Weel. In Grok, open Plugins and remove Weel from the Connectors tab.
Common questions
How long does a connection last?
Up to 90 days from when you approve it. If you don't use it for 14 days, you'll also need to reconnect. When someone is removed from your business or their account is deactivated, their connections end automatically.
Can I connect more than one business?
Each connection covers one business. To use a different business, disconnect and reconnect from your assistant, then choose the other business.
Can my assistant see more than I can?
No. It has the same permissions as your Weel account.
What happens if I connect the same assistant again?
The new connection replaces the old one, so you won't end up with duplicates.
Why do I see "Connection unavailable"?
Weel MCP isn't turned on for that business yet. Contact Weel support to ask about access.
