Weel only picks up Xero lock date changes through a sync, not in real time, so here's how to refresh yours and confirm the setting that controls it.
Before you start
- Your business is connected to Xero.
- You have settings-level access. The Locked accounting periods setting only appears for Xero-connected businesses with this permission. If you can't find it, see How to Find the Locked Accounting Periods Setting.
Steps
-
Go to Settings > AI and automations > Locked accounting periods and confirm the toggle is switched on.
- This needs to stay on for Weel to track your lock date. If it's off, syncing won't refresh the date, and any previously saved date is cleared.
-
Click Sync with Xero on the Locked accounting periods panel, or on the Chart of Accounts settings page. Both trigger the same sync. If the button doesn't work because your Xero integration shows as broken, reconnect it from Settings > Integrations first.
- Prefer not to sync manually? The daily automatic accounting sync refreshes the lock date the same way, with up to a day's delay.
- Once the sync finishes, the new lock date appears on the Locked accounting periods panel as "current lock date is [date]."
What happens next
The automatic date adjustment tied to this setting only applies to Invoices and Reimbursements still in Coding Required or Waiting for Approval, never card transactions or items already approved before the lock date changed. If an already-approved invoice or reimbursement still shows a locked-period export error after your lock date updates, that's expected: see I've enabled auto-lock period handling and still have approved invoices/reimbursements stuck with an export error?.
