Add your Weel card to Apple Wallet via the Weel app, or start from Apple Wallet itself, to tap and pay in-store instantly with no physical card needed.
Before you start
- You'll need the Weel mobile app installed, a stable internet connection, and to be logged in.
- Your card must be active. If it's frozen or cancelled, the add-to-wallet option won't appear. Unfreeze the card or contact your admin first.
- Your device must support Apple Wallet, and your mobile number must be able to receive SMS verification codes. Apple Wallet supports iPhone 6 and later, but the Weel app needs a newer iOS version, so you'll need an iPhone 6s or later for this feature.
To add your card
- Open the Weel mobile app and go to the Card tab.
-
Tap the Add card to Apple Wallet banner above your card.
- You can also get here from the cog icon > Manage your card > Setup virtual card. Both open the same flow.
- On the "Let's add your Weel card to your Apple Wallet" screen, tap Add to Apple Wallet.
- Tap Next.
- Agree to the terms and conditions.
- On the card verification screen, choose Text Message, then tap Next.
- Enter the verification code Apple sends you by SMS.
Steps 4 to 7 use Apple's own Wallet screens, not Weel's, so the exact wording there is set by Apple.
Weel will then prompt you to set a card PIN. You can also do this later from the Card tab's cog icon under Manage card PIN.
- Tap Set PIN.
- Enter a 4-digit PIN on the Create card PIN screen. Avoid easy-to-guess combinations like 1111 or 1234, or your birth date.
- Re-enter the same PIN on the Confirm card PIN screen, then tap Next.
- You'll see a confirmation that your PIN has been set.
You don't need an SMS code for this part, you enter the PIN directly in the Weel app. In rare cases you might be asked for an extra 6-digit verification code before the change goes through, but most people won't see this step.
What happens next
Your Weel card works at most merchants that accept contactless (Tap and Go) payments and is ready to use in Apple Wallet straight away. To pay in-store, open Apple Wallet, select your Weel card, and hold your phone over the card reader. You only need to do this once; your card stays in Apple Wallet unless you remove it manually.
- Note: Some in-store purchases can ask for a PIN. This is set by the card network and payment terminal, not by Weel or Nium, and typically applies above about $100, though it can vary. Set your PIN up in advance so you're not caught out at the register.
- Received a physical card? A physical card is issued as a new card record with its own card number, so your existing virtual card's wallet entry won't carry over automatically. Remove the old card from Apple Wallet and re-add your new card using the steps above.
