Turn off Face ID for Apple Pay and confirm payments with your device passcode instead, straight from your iPhone's Settings.
Before you start
- You'll need access to your iPhone's Settings app, with Apple Pay already set up for your Weel card. If you haven't added your card yet, see How to add your card to Apple Wallet and Google Pay.
- These steps are for iPhones with Face ID. If your iPhone has Touch ID instead (for example, iPhone SE), use Settings > Touch ID & Passcode instead of Face ID & Passcode.
Turn off Face ID for Apple Pay
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Face ID & Passcode.
- Enter your device passcode.
- Under Use Face ID For, toggle off Apple Pay.
- Some iOS versions label this "Wallet & Apple Pay" or "Contactless & Payments." It's the same setting.
Apple Pay now asks for your device passcode instead of Face ID to confirm payments.
Pay using your passcode
- Open Apple Wallet and select your Weel card, or double-click the side button to bring up Apple Pay.
- Hold your phone near the payment reader.
- Enter your passcode when prompted. Tap Pay with Passcode first if it appears on screen.
You can re-enable Face ID for Apple Pay any time by repeating the steps above and toggling it back on.
Good to know
This setting only changes how your phone confirms the payment: Face ID or passcode. It's separate from any PIN a payment terminal itself asks for.
Terminals can still require a card PIN on their own, for example on contactless taps over about $100 (the same threshold in Australia and New Zealand), or when inserting a physical card. This is a Visa card network rule, not something Weel or our card partner controls. See Understanding when you'll need a PIN for card payments if you haven't set up a card PIN yet.
