Set a PIN for your Weel card in the mobile app so you're ready when a terminal asks, as covered in Understanding when you'll need a PIN for card payments.
Before you start
- You'll need the Weel mobile app. PIN management isn't available in the Weel web app.
Steps
- Open the Weel mobile app.
- Tap the Card tab.
- Tap the Settings (cog icon) in the top right-hand corner.
- Tap Manage card PIN.
- Enter a 4-digit PIN. This is the PIN you'll use at the terminal when prompted.
-
Confirm your new PIN by entering the same 4-digit PIN again.
- In rare cases, you might be asked for an extra 6-digit verification code, sent by SMS or from your authenticator app, before the change goes through. Most people won't see this step.
- Tap Done on the Success! confirmation screen. Your PIN is active immediately.
What happens next
Your PIN works for both your physical card and its virtual version in your phone's wallet (Apple Pay or Google Pay), since they're the same card, so you only need to set it up once. This works the same way whether your business is registered in Australia or New Zealand.
You might also be asked for this PIN outside of a specific purchase amount: for contactless taps over about $100 (the same threshold in Australia and New Zealand), for chip-and-insert payments, which always ask for a PIN regardless of amount, or after several taps in a row on some terminals. It's worth setting yours up in advance rather than waiting until you're prompted at checkout.
