This guide covers why a budget isn't showing and how to find it; see Understanding Budgets.
Work out which situation matches, then follow that part below: Part 1 if you can't see any budgets at all, or Part 2 if you can see some budgets but not one specific one. This guide covers standard Budgets; Subscriptions and Default Charge Budgets work the same way but aren't covered here.
Part 1: You can't see any budgets at all
- Check you're in the right business. This is the single most common cause and the easiest to miss: if your account has more than one business, budgets are scoped strictly to the one you're currently viewing, so a budget that exists in a different business won't show at all. On the web app, click your business name in the top-right of the header to open the switcher and choose the right one. On the mobile app, open the Menu and tap Change Business.
-
Check your role includes Budgets access. Owner, Admin, and Accountant can see every budget by default. A Team Member, or a custom role without Budgets access, only sees budgets they're a member of, a Budget Owner on, or currently have a top-up or bill approval routed to them for.
- Ask an Admin to add you to the relevant budget, or to grant your role Budgets access so you can see everything.
Part 2: You can see some budgets, just not one specific one
-
Check you're a member of that budget. Ask an Admin or the budget's Budget Owner to add you: seeing other budgets doesn't mean you're on all of them.
- Being a Budget Owner, or having an approval routed to you for that budget, also gives you access without being a member. Removing someone from one budget never affects their access to others.
-
Check whether the budget is archived. A budget with an end date in the past, or one an Admin deleted, moves to Archived and drops out of the default list, though its history stays available. On the web app, an Admin can check the Archived tab, if your business has that available. See What are archived budgets?.
- On mobile, the budget picker only ever shows Active budgets: there's no Archived or Scheduled view there, so check on web if you need to look further.
- Check whether the budget hasn't started yet. A budget with a future start date sits in Scheduled status until then, excluded from the default list the same way. It'll appear automatically once live; an Admin can check the Scheduled tab early, if available. See How to set start and end dates on a budget.
- Check you're in the right business for that budget specifically. If your businesses each have their own budgets, it's easy to expect one that actually lives in a different business than the one you're currently viewing.
