Get Google Wallet (formerly Google Pay) downloaded and set up on your Android device so you can tap to pay in person.
Steps
Download Google Wallet
- Open the Google Play Store on your device.
- Tap the Search tab.
-
Search for Google Wallet (or Google Pay, depending on your device or region) and select the app.
- Google renamed Google Pay to Google Wallet from 2022. A few devices or regions still show the old name, so use whichever one appears for you.
- Tap Install.
- Authenticate the download with your device's passcode, fingerprint, or face unlock, if prompted.
- Once the app finishes downloading, tap Open.
Set up Google Wallet
- Sign in with the Google account you want your wallet tied to. If your workplace gives you a separate Google Workspace account, either one works, it's your call.
- If your device doesn't already have a screen lock set up, set one now (PIN, pattern, password, or biometric). You need this before you can add a payment card.
-
Add your first payment card by scanning it with your camera or entering the details manually.
- For your Weel card, skip this generic entry. Use How to add your card to Google Pay instead, starting from the Add to Google Wallet banner in the Weel app's Card tab.
Enable NFC
- Open your phone's Settings.
- Tap Connections (some Android versions show this differently or surface the NFC toggle directly under Settings).
- Make sure NFC is switched On.
