Add your primary Weel card to Google Wallet (formerly Google Pay) in a few taps, so you can pay in-store with your phone.
Before you start
- Only your primary Weel card can be added to Google Wallet; secondary cards stay online-only. See Understanding Card Types in Weel: Primary vs Secondary
- Have the Weel mobile app installed and ready to open.
Add your card automatically (recommended)
- Open the Weel mobile app and go to the Card tab.
-
Tap the Add card to Google Wallet banner.
- You can also get there via the cog icon on the Card tab, then Setup virtual card.
-
Weel sends a one-time verification code by SMS, and also by email if your business is registered outside New Zealand. NZ-registered businesses get the code by SMS from Weel only, since Nium sends that confirmation email directly instead. Open Google Wallet, tap your card, and enter the code.
- The code expires after 5 minutes, so request a new one rather than retrying an expired code.
- Your card is added automatically once the code is verified. There's no need to enter personal details, accept terms, or complete a separate step in Google Wallet.
-
Set a PIN for your card when prompted. This is a separate step that covers both your virtual and physical Weel card, and you only need to do it once unless you reset it.
- PINs aren't only for Google Wallet. They can apply to contactless taps over about $100, chip-and-insert payments, or several taps in a row, though Face ID or your passcode usually covers you in Google Wallet itself. See Understanding when you'll need a PIN for card payments.
Add your card manually (if automatic isn't available or doesn't complete)
- Go to the Card tab, tap the cog icon, then Add to wallet manually, then Get card details.
- In Google Wallet, tap Add to Wallet, then Payment card, then Enter details manually.
- Enter the card number and details shown in the Weel app (tap the copy icon next to the card number to copy it). Google Wallet may also ask for a billing address; use your business's registered address.
What happens next
You'll only need to add your card once, but if you get a new or replacement physical card, remove the old entry from Google Wallet and repeat these steps with the new card. Android doesn't limit how many cards you can keep in Google Wallet.
