Weel works in two places: the Weel web app in your browser, and the Weel mobile app on your phone. They're built for different jobs, and some tasks only work in one or the other. This article covers what each app does best, so you always know where to go.
How It Works
- Mobile: Add your Weel card to Apple Pay or Google Pay and tap to pay in-store (not available on web).
- Mobile: Capture a receipt with your phone's camera the moment you spend, and Weel starts reading the details immediately.
- Mobile: Activate a new physical card and set its PIN.
- Web: Create and manage budgets, connect your accounting software and map your chart of accounts, and fund your account balance.
- Web: Invite your team, set roles and permissions, and build approval rules.
- Web: Manage purchase orders and suppliers, and run detailed reporting.
What you can only do in the mobile app
- Tap and pay in-store. You'll need the Weel Mobile App to add your Weel card to Apple Pay or Google Pay and pay by tapping your phone.
- Capture receipts with your camera. When managing expenses, you can take a photograph of your receipt the moment you make a payment, letting Weel read the details for you.
- Activate a physical card and set its PIN. You'll need the Weel mobile app to complete the steps required to finalise the setup of a new physical card.
What's best in the web app
- Create and manage budgets.
- Connect your accounting software and map your chart of accounts.
- Fund your account balance.
- Invite people and manage roles and permissions.
- Set up approval rules.
- Manage purchase orders and new suppliers.
- Analyse detailed reporting.
Which should I use?
- Team members will spend most of their time in the mobile app. This largely includes making payments, capturing receipts and completing expenses.
- Admins and Financial Controllers do the heavier setup and management in the web app, using the mobile app to approve and spend on the move.
Good to know
- You can still upload an existing receipt (a photo, a PDF, or an email attachment) in the web app under a bill, transaction, or reimbursement. Only capturing a brand new photo in the moment needs the mobile app.
- Approving requests works in both apps. The web app has its own Approvals page, so you don't have to be on your phone to approve on the move.
- Team members mostly work from the mobile app: making payments, capturing receipts, and completing expenses on the go. Admins and Financial Controllers handle the heavier setup and management from the web app.
