Your Weel card works overseas by default, so there's nothing to set up before you travel or spend internationally. Physical and virtual cards work the same way, and a foreign exchange fee of 0.95% applies to any transaction in a foreign currency. A small number of countries are restricted for banking and risk reasons.
How It Works
- Visa acceptance: Works anywhere Visa is accepted, online or in-store where tap payments are supported, since Weel cards run on the Visa network.
- Every card, every business: Physical and virtual cards work the same way overseas, for both Australian and New Zealand businesses.
- Foreign exchange fee: A 0.95% fee applies to transactions made in a foreign currency, letting you spend internationally while accessing competitive exchange rates.
- Restricted countries: A small number of countries, including Poland, are restricted for banking and risk reasons. Cards used there are automatically blocked.
- Business-level controls: Admins can ask Support to block specific countries or currencies (usually available on Enterprise plans), or set up Payment Control Rules to restrict merchants.
Good to know
- If your card is blocked in a restricted country, contact your business admin. They can request a country override through Support.
- If your card is declined overseas and your country isn't restricted, check with your admin, since your business may have set its own block.
- China isn't restricted, but acceptance can be patchy. Many merchants prefer Alipay, WeChat Pay, or UnionPay, so it's worth carrying a backup payment method.
