Your Weel funding account doesn't display as "Weel". Instead, it shows the name of Nium, the banking partner that issues the account: "Nium Pty Ltd" in Australia or "NIUM (NEW ZEALAND) LIMITED" in New Zealand. The reason differs by country, but either way it's expected, safe, and doesn't affect your transfers.
How It Works
- Confirmation of Payee (Australia): Nium Pty Ltd is the licensed issuer holding Australian funds on trust, so it's the name your bank's Confirmation of Payee check matches.
- New Zealand naming: Your account shows as NIUM (NEW ZEALAND) LIMITED, the provider that issues it and holds funds on bare trust, not because of Confirmation of Payee.
- Always current: Find the exact account name to use any time under Settings → Account balance → Transfer funds. It's shown per currency and kept up to date.
- A separate rule: Your external bank account must still be held in the same legal name as your Weel account, or transfers from it can be rejected. This article covers only the name Weel's own funding account displays.
Good to know
- If you've saved the account under an older name, like "Weel", transfers still go through, but your bank may show a payee-mismatch warning until you update your saved payee to the current name.
- Nium (New Zealand) Limited isn't itself a registered bank. Funds are deposited with its banking infrastructure partner, a registered NZ bank, which is also why your NZ account number's bank code doesn't read "NIUM".
