If your bank rejects a transfer into your Weel account balance, here's why it happens and how to fix it, including switching to Direct Debit to avoid it recurring.
Steps
-
Check your funding details in Settings > Account balance > Transfer funds. This is where you'll find the BSB, account number, and account name for your Weel account balance.
- The account name shows as "Nium Pty Ltd", Weel's banking provider: that's expected, not an error, and it's what your bank's Confirmation of Payee check (if it runs one) verifies against.
-
Match your sending account's name to your Weel account's registered legal business name, exactly. This is the most common reason a transfer is rejected. Funds must come from a business bank account held in the exact same legal name as your Weel account, an AML/CTF requirement from Nium that applies to every Weel business. If the names don't match, the transfer is automatically rejected and returned to the account it came from. This check has run automatically on every incoming transfer since 1 June 2026, and we'll email your account's Owner and Admins if a transfer is rejected on this basis. Even close variants fail: your bank sending its own name as payer, a shortened version of your business name, or a transfer from a related entity such as a parent company, subsidiary, or a director's personal account.
- Need to fund from a related entity's account? Contact help@letsweel.com before sending; this can only be arranged in advance, not fixed after a transfer has already bounced.
-
Send a standard NPP or BECS transfer; RTGS deposits aren't supported.
- Already sent funds via RTGS? Contact support with a bank statement (BSB, account number, and registered company name) and proof of remittance (trace number). Allow up to 10 business days to trace and refund it.
- Confirm your Weel account isn't paused. A compliance hold or unpaid subscription causes incoming transfers to be automatically returned. Contact support if you're not sure of your account's status.
- Use the Copy buttons in Settings > Account balance instead of retyping your BSB, account number, or account name. A typo in any of these can cause a rejection, and funds sent to incorrect details can't be refunded.
- Don't use BPAY to fund your account balance. BPAY in Weel (Beta, Australia/AUD only) is only for paying supplier bills through Accounts Payable; it can't top up your balance. If you're looking for a way around a rejected transfer, Direct Debit is your best option (next step).
-
Switch to Direct Debit if this keeps happening. Instead of you sending a transfer, Weel automatically pulls a top-up amount from your linked bank account whenever your balance drops to a threshold you set, avoiding this exact failure mode. Go to Settings > Account balance, turn on Direct Debit, and set a top-up amount between $100 and $250,000 and the balance level that triggers it.
- Enter the account to be debited; the same legal-name requirement above applies here too. We verify it with a 1-cent credit and a 5-digit code within 1-2 business days.
- Allow time for the debit and transfer to process. Once your threshold is hit, allow up to an hour for the debit to trigger and 3-5 business days for the funds to arrive. First-time setups, changed bank details, or unusually large amounts may be reviewed by Weel before processing.
What happens next
If you're an NZ business, BSBs don't apply to you: NZ funding accounts don't use one, so see How to transfer funds into your account balance for the NZ steps, and confirm your funding bank is on the FMA/EIV qualifying bank list. Still stuck? Contact Weel support via in-app messaging or help@letsweel.com; we can check your account status and confirm exactly why a specific transfer was rejected.
