If a team member changes their number or stops receiving SMS codes, they can get locked out of Weel. You can now update their mobile number yourself from the People page, so they can sign in again without contacting Weel Support.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Admin access, or a custom role with Add and remove people permission.
- Two-factory authentication set up on your own account. Weel asks you to verify yourself before the change saves.
- The team member's correct new mobile number, including the country code.
Steps
To update a team member's mobile number:
- Open the People page.
- Select the team member to open their details.
-
Under User details, enter the new number in the Mobile number field.
- Use the country selector to pick the right country code.
- You'll see a reminder to check the number. The team member will need to verify it the next time they sign in.
- Check every digit, then click Update.
- Complete the verification step when Weel asks for it.
What happens next
The new number takes effect straight away. Sign-in codes, card verification codes and card SMS all go to the new number from now on. The team member won't be signed out of any current sessions.
We'll also email the team member to let them know you changed their number. The email shows the new number in full, so they can spot a typo.
The field shows an Unverified badge until the team member proves they have the new number. Hover over the badge to see the Mobile number history, including who made each change and when. Once they've verified it, the badge changes to Verified.
How the team member verifies depends on how they sign in:
- SMS sign-in codes: the sign-in code goes to the new number. Entering it verifies the number, with no extra steps.
- Single sign-on (SSO): after signing in, they'll see a Verify your mobile number screen. They'll need to enter the 6-digit code sent to the new number before they can continue.
- Authenticator app: they'll see the same screen but can tap Not now. They can verify later from Settings > Profile by clicking Verify number.
If the team member doesn't have access to the new number, they can select I don't have access to this number on the verify screen. You'll then need to correct the number for them.
Things to remember
- You can't change an Owner's number if you're an Admin. Owners can update their own number in their settings or contact Weel Support.
- You can't change your own number here. Update it from your settings instead. See How to update your phone number.
- You can't use your own number for a team member.
- You can only change numbers for people who've accepted their invite. The field doesn't show for pending invites.
