Switch between your authenticator app and SMS verification for a single sign-in, as explained in How do I use two-factor authentication?.
Before you start
- Your authenticator app is already your default sign-in method once you've added it. This switch only changes which method you use for the current sign-in, not your default.
- Both an authenticator app and SMS verification must be set up first. This switch option only appears when you have both.
- Haven't added an authenticator app yet? See How to add an authenticator app as a verification method first.
Web app
- When you're prompted to enter your authentication code, click Try another way.
- On the Choose verification method screen, select SMS verification (or Authenticator app, if you want to switch back).
- Click Confirm.
- Enter the code for the method you selected.
Mobile app
- When you're prompted to enter your authentication code, tap Try another way.
- On the Choose verification method screen, select SMS verification (or Authenticator app to switch back).
- Tap Continue.
- Enter the code for the method you selected.
What happens next
This switch applies to that sign-in only. Next time you log in, you'll be prompted with your default method again (your authenticator app, if you've added one). If you want to use the other method for that new session too, tap or click Try another way again. This option is available every time you sign in, not a one-off.
