Visa sets maximum interchange reimbursement fees to balance the payment system for everyone in it. This is a transfer between the acquirer processing a transaction and Nium, Weel's card-issuing partner, not a fee merchants pay directly. Weel issues commercial cards, so the Visa Commercial schedule below applies to Weel's New Zealand domestic transactions.
How It Works
- Merchants never see this fee directly. They pay their acquirer a separate "merchant discount fee," which can bundle in several other processing services beyond interchange.
- Only Visa Commercial rates apply here. Weel issues commercial, not personal, cards, so this table is the schedule relevant to Weel transactions specifically.
- Qualifying criteria set the rate. Each program has technical criteria a transaction must meet; otherwise it falls back to the Standard rate for its channel.
- Card Present and Card Not Present are tracked separately. The Standard fallback rate depends on which channel the transaction happened in, not a flat rate.
- Rates can change without notice. Visa publishes and updates this schedule independently, so always check its own page for the most current figures.
