A Weel card doesn't hold its own balance, so there's no way to top it up directly. Every card draws on two things instead: the spending limit on its budget or budget member, and your business's Account Balance. To put more money behind a card, you top up one or both of those.
How It Works
- Account Balance: Your business's pool of real money, topped up by manual bank transfer (BSB and account number under Settings) or Direct Debit, which pulls funds automatically when your balance runs low.
- Budget and member limits: Cap how much of your Account Balance a card can spend; raising the limit doesn't add money itself.
- Two conditions, both required: A card payment needs enough budget or member limit, and enough Account Balance, or it declines.
- Shared-limit budgets: Use the One-off limit adjustment control (the pencil icon at the top of the budget page) on web, or (depending on your business) a "Request limit update" button in the same spot, which works the same way, or the equivalent flow in the Weel mobile app.
- Individual-limit budgets: Use the + and − icons next to that member's name and spend limit, on their own row in the Budget Members table, or (depending on your business) a "Request member limit update" link on that row, which works the same way, instead of topping up the whole budget.
- Approval Rules: Some limit increases need sign-off from another admin before they take effect, depending on your business's settings.
Good to know
- There's no way to fund a card directly: every dollar routes through the budget or member limit and Account Balance above.
- If a card's available amount looks like zero, check whether it's the Account Balance or the budget/member limit that's run out; see Understanding the Difference Between Account Balance and Budget Limit.
