Your Weel card works overseas by default, with nothing to set up before you travel or spend internationally. Physical and virtual cards work the same way abroad, for both Australian and New Zealand businesses. Cards run on the Visa network, so you can pay wherever Visa is accepted, and a foreign exchange fee applies to give you competitive exchange rates.
How It Works
- Visa acceptance: Weel cards run on the Visa network, so they work wherever Visa is accepted, online, in-store, or by tap.
- Foreign exchange fee: A 0.95% fee applies to foreign-currency transactions, giving you competitive exchange rates while you spend abroad.
- Restricted countries: A small number of countries are restricted for banking and risk reasons, and cards used there are blocked automatically.
Good to know
- If your card is declined overseas in a country that isn't restricted, check with your business admin, your business may have set its own country, currency, or merchant block.
- China isn't on the restricted list, so your card can technically be used there, but acceptance is patchy since many merchants prefer Alipay, WeChat Pay, or UnionPay. Carry a backup payment method.
