Whether you can issue a physical card depends on your role's permissions and the employee's payment type. Only people with the Budgets: Create permission, which Account Owners and Admins have by default (and which a custom role can also be granted), can issue physical cards. The employee also needs the Cards payment type assigned first.
How It Works
- The Budgets: Create permission, not your job title, controls who can issue a physical card. Account Owners and Admins get this by default.
- A business can grant Budgets: Create to a custom role too, so people outside the default Account Owner and Admin roles might issue cards.
- Accountants have read-only budget access and can't issue cards, while Team Members have no budget permissions in Weel at all.
- An employee needs the Cards payment type assigned to them before you can issue them a physical card.
- Adding the Cards payment type needs People permissions, a separate permission from Budgets: Create, granted via User Management.
- Adding an employee to a budget automatically issues them a virtual card. Issuing a physical card is always a separate, deliberate step done afterward.
Good to know
- Payment-type and card-issuing permissions are separate. In a business with custom roles, one person might add the Cards payment type to a colleague without being able to issue their physical card, or the reverse.
