When your business's Account Owner or Admin issues you a physical card, your existing virtual card is replaced (i.e. your card number changes). You will need to add the new card to your mobile wallet to avoid payment interruptions.
Before you start
- You'll need the Weel app and a mobile wallet (Apple Wallet or Google Wallet) set up on your device.
- This applies to your primary card only. Secondary cards are online-only and can't be added to a digital wallet.
Steps
-
Open your mobile wallet and remove your existing Weel virtual card, if it's still listed.
- It's no longer active. Leaving it in place can trigger a "Contact card issuer" error.
- Open the Weel app. Once your new card is ready, you'll see a banner: "Add card to Apple Wallet" (iOS) or "Add card to Google Wallet" (Android). Also see:
- Tap the banner and follow the prompts to add your new card to your wallet.
What happens next
Your new card isn't just a plastic version of your old one; it's a genuinely new card that supports in-store tap payments and digital wallet use from the moment it's issued. It's ready to use as soon as you add it to your wallet; you don't need to wait for the physical card to arrive or be activated.
The physical card's own status (Pending shipment, Requires activation, Active) is tracked separately in the Weel app and relates only to the plastic card, not your ability to pay via wallet.
You may also see a separate "Activate your physical card" prompt while your card's status is Pending shipment or Requires activation. This prompt is tied to when your card is dispatched, not delivered:
- Requires activation is set as soon as the card ships from the printer, even though it can still be in transit
- Pending shipment appears even earlier, before dispatch.
This means that the prompt can appear well before your physical card actually arrives. Wait until you have the physical card in hand before tapping it, to activate it for in-store tap and chip payments.
