Check whether an extra card is expected under Weel's card structure, then freeze it, remove the budget membership, or contact Support to close it for good.
Before you start
- You need the View all budgets permission to see Admin view. Owners and Admins have it by default; Accountants have read-only access.
- Freezing your own card needs no special permission. Freezing or unfreezing someone else's card needs the Create and edit budgets permission.
Steps
-
Confirm it's a genuine duplicate, not an expected extra card. Every budget a team member joins issues its own Secondary Budget Card automatically, alongside their one Primary Card, so someone in two budgets will genuinely have three card numbers by design. The one exception is a physical card: a person can only have one active physical card, though that limit doesn't apply to virtual cards, which is what every Secondary Budget Card is. See Understanding Card Types in Weel: Primary vs Secondary, Understanding Why You Have Multiple Weel Card Numbers, and Understanding Physical Card Limits Per User.
- If that's what you're seeing, there's nothing to remove.
- If it's genuinely a mistake, note that there's no direct delete button for a Primary or Secondary card in the Weel web or mobile app; a Subscription card is the only card type with one (see How do I delete a subscription card?). Use the steps below instead.
- Open the Weel web app, click Cards in the left sidebar, and switch to Admin view (not Individual view).
- Choose Grouped by people or Grouped by budget, then click the chevron next to the person's name to expand their cards.
-
Click the ellipsis (three-dot) button next to the card you want to stop, then turn on the Freeze card toggle.
- This declines every transaction on the card immediately, physical or virtual, until you turn it off again. It's reversible and doesn't remove the card from view.
-
If the card came from being added to a budget by mistake, also remove them from that budget.
- This stops new spend being tracked against the budget, but it doesn't stop the card itself working, so freeze it too.
-
For a permanent close instead of a pause, contact Weel Support with the cardholder's name and the last 4 digits of the card.
- Only Support can permanently revoke a card; it isn't a self-serve option in the Weel app.
What happens next
You can unfreeze the card at any time from the same menu. Freezing pauses a card; it doesn't close or remove it.
